This research located in Meru Betiri National Park, East Java Province. Meru Betiri National Park is located in south part of Java Island, administratively a part of Jember District and Banyuwangi District.
The problems studied this research is that there were never been any research to determine the degree of suitability for javan tiger (Panthera tigris sondaica) habitat. In order to do that, data about natural characteristic in the research area were needed. Based on those problems, this research is aimed : (1) to find natural parameter in the research area, (2) to study the degree of suitability in the research area as Javan Tiger habitat.
The method used in this research is making a criteria for Javan Tiger’s necessary for living as a basic for the classification. Research area is divided into 72 land unit which is the result of overlay Relief Topography Map, Steepness of Slope Map, Distribution of Surface Water Map, Vegetation Type Map, and Prey’s Habitat Potention Map. To determine the degree of suitability, matching analysis method is applied on each land unit.
The result of this research indicated that some part of research area is potential for Javan Tiger habitat. Dominant handicap in the research area is steepness of slope, topographic relief condition, and human disturbance. Surface water and prey is well provided. Vegetation type is also supported, because big part of research area is tropical forest, which is the type of vegetation that Javan Tiger like. Potential area for Java Tiger habitat is 2.345 ha (4,1%), moderate is 24.866 ha (43,51 %), and not potential is 29.944 ha (52,39%).
Key Word : habitat potention, prey, vegetation type, surface water, steepness of slope, relief, javan tiger.
